Learn a new skill, refresh your perspective, and imagine the world more creatively! A number of studio artists of the Alton Mill offer classes & workshops in a variety of mediums and themes, for beginners to advanced artists of all ages. We also have a variety of team-building workshop activities that can be tailored to the needs of your company off-site, party, conference, or other private event.

Lavender Flower Workshop (11-1): March 30th

Come and create a beautiful table decoration. We will use wool fabric to make lovely bunches of lavender. You can choose a vintage milk glass vase to put your flowers in. All materials are provided.

“Tree of Life” Paint & PlayShop: April 6th

The Tree of Life is an ancient symbol appearing in various cultures from Mayan, to Celtic, to Nordic, and throughout religious traditions from to Buddhism, to Christianity and the Kabbalah. On a personal level, the Tree of Life also represents our own uniqueness and individual beauty, because, just like us, all trees begin life the same, yet as they grow, they weather nature’s forces and develop in their own one-of-a-kind way. This workshop gives you an opportunity to express that uniqueness by painting a small canvas with your very own Tree of Life image, using a stylistic approach, along the lines of the examples pictured here, only with your own expressive flair.

All About Texture - Advanced Encaustic Workshop: April 27th

  This advanced All About Texture workshop is for encaustic students to refine their work, learn new techniques and apply to a home or studio practice.

Students will learn to create texture by some of the following techniques : masking off areas, stencils, water on wax, dry brush (accretion), incising, collage items to create texture, iron as a gouging tool, heating tools to create texture.

Previous encaustic experience necessary.

Photo Encaustics: April 20th

  Explore the luminous, versatile and limitless possibilities of encaustic in combination with photography and mixed media.

The workshop is a beginner course covering mixed media collage using your own precious photo printed on handmade paper, applying melted beeswax and resin, and exploring techniques in colour and texture. Participants will take home a finished mixed media piece.

Dot Mandala Painting Workshop: May 11th

 Let’s get dotty! Dot mandala painting is the calm and meditative process of applying acrylic paint, dot by dot, to create beautiful circular designs known as mandalas, an easy method that requires minimal art skills. The circular shape and symmetry of mandala art is very pleasing to the eye and creating them is a deeply absorbing and relaxing process. This is a fun, interactive workshop suited to anyone, even if you are a complete beginner.

“Impressionist Lilacs” Acrylic Painting Workshop: May 25th

 In this workshop we will take an impressionistic approach to painting lilac blooms that allows for lots of interpretation and self-expression but will also let you learn some basic skills and principles of acrylic painting, especially if you are new to it. Using fun techniques such as “pointillism”, “daubing” and a palette knife, I will guide you in mixing colours and bringing to life a bouquet of beauty on your canvas.

Aside from regularly-scheduled workshops, many of our artists schedule occasional master classes or you can commission a special workshop for a team-building or groups activity. To book individual classes, please contact artists directly and check their websites.

 

The Hive Encaustic Studio offers a variety of master classes and special workshops throughout the year. 

 

Throughout the year CJ Shelton offers half and full-day themed sessions in watercolour painting, mandala making, and a variety of seasonal crafts and creative self-discovery sessions. Visit CJ’s website to see what she has coming up and join her newsletter to stay informed. Bookings for private and corporate groups as well as family parties, bridal parties and “girl’s day out” gatherings can also be accommodated. You can also check out CJ’s “online studio” on  Patreon , where for a low monthly fee you can access her drawing and painting tutorials and receive new projects, practice and creativity prompts every month.

 

The Mill Fibre Art has a Pay & Play Option, choose your desired workshop and book privately.

 

Lydia Panart is accepting ongoing workshop sessions tailored for corporate team building, couples, or for a group of friends or family members. This is a fun creative time to co-create for a guided course using different tools and techniques. No experience is necessary.
