Make Your Own Witch's Ladder with CJ Shelton

Did you know that the ancient Celtic Festival of "Samhain (pronounced 'sow-oon') is the origin of our modern day All Hallows Eve or Halloween? Traditionally celebrated around the first of November, this was the time when the "veils between the worlds" were thin and spirits, ghosts and goblins could pass easily from the world beyond into ours. It was also a time for working magic and casting spells.

To do a little of your own spellcasting and intention setting this Halloween, join artist CJ Shelton in her beautiful studio to make your own "Witches Ladder", a type of Celtic folk magic that will help set your hopes and dreams in motion.

Wool, ribbon, charms and found objects as well as twigs, berries and other organic bits and pieces gathered from the local forests will be used to make your "ladder". This is a wonderful way to "cast" your intentions for the year ahead as you weave thoughts, prayers, and spells into your magical creation.

The session will be rounded out with a short, guided meditation and blessing. Your finished "ladder" can then be hung indoors or outdoors to help protect your home and send its message to the spirit world. All materials supplied.

PRE-REGISTRATION WITH PAYMENT IN FULL IS REQUIRED. Please email cj.shelton@sympatico.ca or call 519-216-8643 to book your spot. To learn more about CJ visit her website at www.dancingmoondesigns.ca

Making small pen & ink drawings and watercolour sketches of the natural world was a gentle timeless art practiced by Edwardian and Victorian ladies in their leisure time. Why not take a page from their books? You too can discover the joy of sketching ‘plein air’ (outdoors) and creating little studies of flowers, birds and rural landscapes. It’s a creative and relaxing way to enjoy our Ontario spring and summer!

Why wish on a star when you can wish on a candle! We all know to make a wish when we blow out the candles on our birthday cake. Wishing candles follow pretty much the same principle. Decorating a candle with specific symbols, words, coloured ribbon and other special tokens not only makes a unique gift idea but is a fun activity for welcoming the return of the Sun on the winter Solstice (December 21), the shortest day of the year. What better way to celebrate then by lighting your special candle, making a wish and visualizing it coming true, knowing that as the days begin getting longer again so too will your dreams grow.

Humber River Shakespeare Presents: A Christmas Carol

    Alton Mill Arts Centre

This December, gather with friends and family as five actors bring the timeless tale of greed, ghosts, salvation, and hope to life.

5 Actors. 30+ characters. 1 Trunk. Masks. Music. Puppets.

With a heart locked up tighter than a cash box, Scrooge must encounter the visits by three spirits for the chance to open up his heart and relish in the joys and aspirations of his fellow man.

This adaptation of Dickens' classic tale reawakens the true spirit of Christmas in a heart-stirring Carol of profound beauty and redemption. With Victorian costumes, enchanting masks and an antique trunk of story-telling treasures, five actors transport you from Scrooge's cold bedroom, to Fezziwig's joyful party, the Cratchit's meager table, to the dismal churchyard and the brightness of a Christmas morning fresh with snow.

A heart-warming event for Tiny Tims and Scrooges alike!
