When Andrew Welch moved to Alton in 2004, he had no idea that scattered incidents during that transition would lead him to a unique exploration of human motivations, the power of numbers, and the role of value systems in our everyday lives. A decade later, his book, "The Value Crisis" has now been published and will be officially launched at the Historic Alton Mill Arts Centre.

Andrew is no stranger to our community. Indeed, it was here at the Alton Mill that he launched his role as the Official Town Crier for the Towns of Caledon and Erin, Ontario, back in January, 2011. Many local residents have appreciated his proclamation writing skills for events such as our annual Fire and Ice Festival, the Millpond Hockey Tournament, and our Cuisine Art event.

The launch of "The Value Crisis" should take his renown as a local author to a new and exciting level. Welch describes the book, subtitled "From dollars to democracy, why numbers are ruining our world", as a timely and very accessible journey that touches on the principles of ecological economics. Through provocative insights, engaging personal anecdotes, and new perspectives, "The Value Crisis" shows us that by getting back to fundamental human values, we might just save our world. The book launch will take place on Friday, September 19th (7-9pm) in the Millrace Room, and is open to the public.
