A creative recipe for a perfect weekend: Take one historic mill, combine with an enviable art culture, mix in gifted artists, passionate local chefs, food producers and an array of exciting entertainment and merchants and what do you get?  

The 5th annual Cuisine–Art festival at the Alton Mill of course!

This spectacular summer weekend is designed to celebrate the Mill's fabulously diverse resident artists and their work while sampling a range of amazing food and drink from local producers and chefs. Whether you’re a stick-to-what-you-know type or a culinary adventurist, you’ll not only see something thing brilliantly creative but you’ll taste it! Plus, you'll be helping to revitalize the Mill Pond and improve the water quality of Shaws Creek and the Credit River Systems.

Cuisine-Art 2013 gives the perfect opportunity for the curious to roll up their sleeves and enjoy a sample workshop from our resident artists as well as experience a food or drink sample from the nutritional & healthy, to the indulgent naughty but nice while wandering through art studios. Then hang on to your apron during the hourly live cook-offs where chefs are given a black box of secret ingredients and compete against the clock.  There is even a chance to get those burning culinary questions answered at the many cooking demo’s offered.

Rain or Shine, it begins with a gorgeous gourmet kick-off on Friday Night, July 19th:  Picture the evening… you've just spent a few moments looking over the foot bridge at the rushing Shaw's Creek and have walked inside a stunningly restored stone mill, bursting with creativity and history. Then out to view the Millpond and down to stone ruins called the Annex in a beautiful park-like setting where you will spending your evening under the stars enjoying great food, drink and music before the delightful outdoor theatre presentation by the Humber River Shakespeare Co.  Please see the dinner menu listed below!

Saturday & Sunday 12-5pm: 

Spice up your day! Most foodies will know our Co-Hosts... Theresa Albert, a family oriented nutritionalist, avid food tweeter, blogger, pinner and TV personality, with appearances on CBC’s Steven & Chris as well as CTV’s Health News.  As well as, Ali Hassan, comedian, actor, self proclaimed kitchen ninja and regular comedic panelist on CBC TV’s George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight... and that’s just for starters. All the Mill is alive with artists, galleries, exciting demos and sip + savour samples from the regions best chefs and producers.

• Samples of fine wines, craft beers, regional premium ciders, and delicious gourmet delights throughout the Mill

• Chef's Demos hourly in the Annex Courtyard Main Stage both Saturday & Sunday

• Daily cook-offs featuring a secret 'Black Box' of locally sourced ingredients and chefs vying for the “This Chef is Hot” award.

• Good Things Market, where you'll find merchants offering great products for your home, kitchen and your palette or palate, whichever the case may be!

• Alton Millpond Walk ‘N’ Talk Get the inside scoop on what your generous contributions are going towards! The Alton Millpond Rehabilitation Committee wants to share with you; a brief history of the dam, what’s happening in the pond in terms of its ecology and role in a healthy landscape, and the next steps in this fascinating community project. Let’s go for a walk!

A weekend to savour all summer long!

Enjoy the evening outdoors on both Friday and Saturday night with live music, cash bar and your choice from the dinner options available then, don’t miss out a performance of “As You Like It” by Humber River Shakespeare Co. The open air theatre performances are held 7pm on both evenings. Tickets are "pay what you can" with a suggested $20 minimum donation and available at humberrivershakespeare.ca or call 416-209-2026. Please bring your own chair or for $5 we'll provide one.
