The Corn Wisdom Way

Experience an Artist Immersion with Chandra Maracle

Discover the rich world of corn culture with Chandra, who will share teachings about corn, its deep significance, and its connection to food sovereignty. Participants will enjoy a hands-on experience using a traditional giant mortar and pestle to help process corn, followed by a taste of traditional cornbread inspired by Chandra’s own practices.

Please bring a water bottle and anything else you need to stay comfortable during the session.

Chandra is the co-founder of Skaronhyase’ko:wa Tyohterakentko:wa tsi Yontaweya’tahkwa / The Everlasting Tree School at Six Nations of the Grand River, where she helped establish the school’s nutrition program. She has contributed to the Healthy Roots initiative and co-developed the Haudenosaunee Food Guide for the Community Challenge. Through Kakhwa’on:we / Real People Eat Real Food, she explores the connections between people, food, mothering, art, language, technology, and land. A graduate of an adult Mohawk language immersion program, Chandra is currently a PhD candidate at York University in Environmental & Urban Change, researching Haudenosaunee foodways and nourishment for postpartum women and families.
