studio 206 | Urban Sketching workshop with cj sheltonThis outdoor session will have you experimenting with how to draw small, quick sketches that capture the essence of an outdoor scene, whether it’s a landscape, an architectural feature, or other interesting setting, in your own whimsical, interpretive way.
No artistic ability is required, just some curiosity and the desire to explore and try something new! Instruction will include how to plan and start a drawing, approach it with your own individual style, and add handwritten notes, observations, or personal reflections.
This is a hands-on experience (suitable for beginners as well as experienced artists) that begins with instruction and some fun practice exercises to get your creative juices flowing, followed by time to roam the grounds of the Alton Mill like a “tourist”, drawing its various natural and architectural features. Your afternoon will include opportunities for 1-to-1 guidance as well as group sharing.
The session begins at 1 pm with instruction and a few practice exercises, followed by drawing outdoors until approximately 4 pm. During that time, CJ will be circulating to provide individual 1-on-1 guidance. The session will end with a re-group to “show and tell”. After the session, you have the option to stay longer and keep drawing.
Materials Required: Sketchbook and drawing materials.
