This fun “try-it” workshop will introduce you to an easy technique to construct the beautiful intricate and twisty knot patterns typically found in traditional Celtic art.

Celtic knots are the complex, interwoven patterns seen in Irish, Scottish and Welsh artwork, jewelry and historical “illuminated” manuscripts such as the famous Book of Kells. They are thought to symbolize eternity or the never-ending life force because they are created with one continuous line that has no beginning and no end.

Starting with pencil and paper you will “unravel” some of the characteristic “under/over” weaving effect of Celtic knotwork by learning a simple but effective way for drawing it. After a bit of practice, you will then be able to draw and then paint your very own traditional knot or Celtic pattern using watercolours, metallic inks and fine-line markers.

Each student will leave the workshop with a small frame-worthy piece. This is a fun and meditative process, a beautiful way to spend a spring afternoon!
