Spring Songbirds Watercolour Workshop

Learn to paint an adorable spring songbird with Mill artist CJ Shelton!

TIME:  1 to 4:30 pm (3.5 hours)
LOCATION:  Studio #206 on the upper level of The Alton Mill Arts Centre
FEE:  $150 + HST per person (includes all materials)

Nothing speaks of spring quite like robins and the return of other warm-weather songbirds! In this fun workshop you will learn some very simple steps for drawing a realistic bird, followed by an introduction to the foundational watercolour basics used to paint a final piece. This includes washes, wet-on-wet, glazing and dry brush techniques.

Although the focus will be on classic Canadian and English robins, all the techniques you learn can be applied to painting other types of birds. The goal here is not so much realism but to have fun creating your own unique bird, perhaps one with a bit of “attitude” or its own personal charm and “character”!

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience with watercolour.

All materials are supplied but if you have your own brushes and watercolours you are encouraged to bring them along. That way you are using what you are familiar with and CJ can advise you on what to supplement them with. 

This is an in-person workshop limited to only 5 participants which means you get lots of one-on-one help.
